The Site
A large concrete pool at a home in Newcastle, New South Wales. The pool was surrounded by stenciled concrete slabs.
The Issue
The concrete slabs along the left side had dropped between 10mm and 80mm causing the slabs to subside away from the pool. The drop in the foundations had become a trip hazard and was rendering the area unsafe.
The pool was built on uncompacted fill which over time had become affected by water ingress. When water penetrates the soil, it can cause the soil particles to shift and settle, leading to subsidence. This is particularly true if the soil is made up of materials such as clay or silt, which are more susceptible to settling when exposed to moisture.
The objectives were to raise and relevel the pool surrounds quickly, economically and with no mess or inconvenience to the homeowners.
The Resinject Solution
Resinject recommended remediation the sunken slabs using their RSJ170 structural resin. RSJ170 is an engineered polyurethane resin that expands and solidifies when injected into the ground.
RSJ170 was injected into the uncompacted fill under the slabs through small drill points. The structural resin compressed the soil and greatly increased its bearing capacity. The concrete slabs were raised to bring the foundations flush with the coping of the pool. The project took 4 hours and came in on quote. The homeowners were extremely impressed that they recommended Reinject to other pool owners.
