The Site

A large bus depot in Brisbane. The facility is a place where the city’s buses are stored when they are not in use, or when they are undergoing maintenance. It also has offices and workshops for mechanics, as well as parking spaces for the buses. The site operates around the clock with hundreds of vehicle movements per day.

The owners wanted to remediate the sunken transport yard without the expense of excavation and the yard needed to be fully operational as quickly as possible.

The Issue

Due to natural settlement and the constant heavy vehicle movements, several areas of concrete had subsided.  The ground beneath the concrete parking bay, which housed 200 buses, was experiencing voidage and housing water. This meant that every time a 16-tonne bus drove onto the slab, it was “bouncing” causing further damage to the concrete and posing a safety risk to users and damage to the asset.

The Resinject Solution

Resinject remediated the concrete slab using its RSJ170 structural resin injection solution. By injecting RSJ170 resin directly underneath the slab in a small grid pattern, the Team gained a significant lift, closed the existing cracks, strengthened the ground and stabilised the slabs.

RSJ170 was chosen for its ability to return the sunken slab back to its original level within a matter of hours, compared to traditional and highly invasive re-levelling or slab replacement methods that would have taken weeks to complete.

The owners of the depot were delighted with the results, the efficiency of the service delivery.
